Mr. C. V. Raman or “Raju” as he was called lovingly by his family and friends, was born and raised in India, the oldest of three children born to Mr. C.R.V. Krishnan and Mrs. Subbalakshmi Venkitakrishnan,  the older brother of Jayanthi Seshadiri and Sridar Chittur (Sita Subbaram) and loving uncle to Vanitha, Anitha, Neel and Maya.

Growing up in a lower middle-class family he managed to graduate with degrees in commerce, law and management following which he had a successful career in the shipping industry. Throughout his life he was a strong believer in enabling education as well as a supporter of arts and athletics. He was an athlete in his own right and also dabbled in sketching. His selfless nature has guided many folks in their own careers.

He enjoyed visiting his family in Albany and made an impression on everyone who met him. He was the biggest fan of his nieces and nephew regardless of whether it was their artistic, athletic, or academic achievements. Unfortunately his life was cut short due to cardiac arrest on August 8, 2022.

The C.V. Raman Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships for higher education to Albany High School students who excel in both academics and athletics or the arts. Donations to the scholarship fund will help the Chittur family carry on Raju's legacy of mentorship and dedication to others.

The Albany Fund for Education is honored to host this scholarship, and unless specified, will share the name and contact information of donors with the Chittur Family so that they can know of your contribution.
